Rubber Duck Cup
Sunday
2nd November
2008
While the horses are preparing for the Melbourne cup it will all be happening on the Goulburn River. We will have rubber duck races with prizes for the winner. This will be fast and fun… so hold on to your feathers and cheer for your favorite.
Prizes also for the craziest race day hat will be given. Beware: The hat will get wet. Don’t wear anything expensive or fragile.

What will the day consist of?
After a welcoming morning tea you will paddle down the tranquil waters of the beautiful Goulburn river, stopping at two boutique wineries to enjoy wine tasting.

At Mitchelton Winery, enjoy fine wine tasting, a walk through the art gallery and the spectacular views from the observation tower. When you return from your tasting, you will be treated to a gourmet picnic lunch on the beautiful banks of the river. A delightful afternoon paddle takes you to the finish at Chateau Tahbilk Winery to sample their excellent wines… this time in the charming setting of the historical 1800’s cellar. Afternoon tea will be served to complement the wines of the area, completing a fun, memorable and relaxing day's adventure.

FAQ

Can you help us celebrate a special occasion?
Certainly. If you want to celebrate someone's birthday, anniversary or some other special day, let us know and we will do our best to make it an extra special day for them.
Contact us with the details at least a week before the event.

What happens if the weather is really bad?
In case of bad weather (it will take quite some bad weather to stop us going) we will contact you or the organiser of your group and arrange another date. If you cannot make the alternative date, we will issue you with a full refund.

What do I wear?
Please refer to the what to bring list on this page.

Children, what age do they need to be?
16 and over. This event is designed with adults in mind so be mindful that it is the right event for them.

Buying wine, how do I get it down the river?
No need to carry it on the river. If you purchase any wine we will have someone to collect it for you. Just let us know.

Food, do you cater for vegetarians, gluten free, etc?
Let us know (via email) your dietary requirements and we will do our best to cater for you.

Do I need to be able to swim?
We will supply everyone with life jackets, so you do not need to be able to swim. Please let us know so we can make sure your day is comfortable and safe.

Can we meet you there?
Sure, just let us know and we will give you directions. It is a great area to make a weekend out of it.

Will there be any rapids?
No. This trip is designed as a flat water floating winery tour… but there is a good chance that you will get wet.

Will I get wet?
Yes. A very high chance if the weather is hot. If you don’t want to get involved in any water fights, let us know and we will put you a boat that doesn’t get involved as much. However, we can’t control everyone and we would suggest you come with the understanding that you may inadvertently become a part of some fun water fights.

Are there change rooms?
At the start of the trip no. At the finish yes. We suggest that you wear your swimming clothes to the river (under your clothes if it’s a cool start in the morning).
At the end of the paddle (Tahbilk winery) there are toilets you can use to change in. It’s nice to go home in dry clothes.

What shoes should I wear?
Runners or strap on sandels (not thongs, they may come off and you could lose them). Not boots, they get too heavy when wet. Not high heel shoes, they are difficult to move around in and can be unsafe for you. We wear shoes on the river because we can’t see what's on the bottom and don’t want you to step on something and injure yourself.

What was said about the last Pinot Noir Paddle

"It was a sensational day – one of the best Sundays I have had in years! The trip was well organised, well paced and a whole lot of fun. Delicious food, interesting people and excellent wines all added to the day. Rafting and swimming down the Goulburn – definitely the way to go!"

Rachel Flenley
e-learning publisher

"The Pinot Noir Paddle was fabulous, actually dynamite! It was such a great idea, a gourmet outdoorsy day! The Goulburn river was gorgeous to meander along and it was such a nice mix of different people and ages. Thank you for all your efforts. The food was delicious and it was great to try out some of the homemade sauces and chutneys that were donated. Hey, I haven't even mentioned the wineries! They were lovely, Mitchelton and Tahbilk. I could have relaxed at both of them for a lot longer, but there was paddling to be done!"

"I don't think there was anything about the day I would change, possibly just plan for a slightly longer day than was originally thought as inevitably everyone wanted to stay a little longer. I would definately support and encourage others to participate in another event like this. Well done!"

Andy Mahon
Flight Attendant Qantas

"Thank you so much to Michael & Jodie for organising a truly indulgent day... you thought of everything: from the beautiful morning tea by the river and gourmet picnic lunch, to the luxury of time to meander and go for a swim along the way. After a day floating down the Goulburn River, I felt like I'd been on holidays for a week. I highly recommend the day to anyone!"

Thanks again for a great day!
